Gwidge
It's not a secret that I like languages. I've been experimenting trying to create websites for a while and have created gwidge.com dedicated to languages. There's not much there yet, I plan to add functionalities or "apps" that can help in language learning or just be fun.Why gwidge? I don't know. It was available and it sounds funny. Most websites about language have a name that starts with lang. I chose a name that takes the last part of language, written a bit differently.
So far there is only the Number Writer, which allows you to spell out (very large) numbers in three languages: English, Dutch, and Spanish - hoping to add more later.
Although language is all around us in the world and its importance can hardly be overestimated as the most important interactions for decision-making on this planet are in the end just "a talk", not much of the science of language has made it into people's general knowledge. There are some good stories in linguistics though, so I've also added a blog page to the website where I will try to tell some of those stories every once in a while. It's in two languages: Dutch and English, but the contents may differ of course.
The first post is called "Oranges everywhere" and tells the story of how European languages got their word for the fruit orange.
